Alex Robertson (2007) is a Composer and Conductor based in New York City.
As a composer:
Robertson's body of work includes numerous compositions for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. He has written works for the Vancouver Symphony, Pacific Symphony, National Youth Orchestra of the United States, Kennedy Center, Yellowbarn festival, New York Youth Symphony, NPR, and more. Some important teachers and mentors of his include Melinda Wagner, Jörg Widmann, Manuel Sosa, and Sean Shepherd. Among his accolades is being a National Youngarts winner (2024) and is a recipient of the ASCAP Morton Gould prize. Robertson currently studies composition at the Juilliard School in New York.
As a conductor:
Robertson has worked as a conductor in such institutions as Tanglewood, the Juilliard School, and the Kinhaven Summer Festival. He also founded the Antiphon Chamber Orchestra, where he serves as the music director, and has worked with groups including the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, and the Juilliard Pre-College String Orchestra. Some important teachers and mentors of his include James Ross, David Robertson, and Oliver Hagen.
Some highlights this season include a new work written for the Vancouver Symphony, a residency with Momentum Berlin where he will conduct the ensemble and write a work, conducting engagements at the Caravanas festival in Portugal, various chamber music works of his being performed in affiliation with the Juilliard School, and several concerts with the Antiphon Chamber Orchestra in New York.
