"Tears on Silent Ground was originally concieved as part of a set of works each of which musically express stories that I have heard from family and friends about their experiences in war. Some of the works were more specific than other works in terms of following the story directly. This work directly follows the events and emotional contour of one of those stories. The work is filled with an underlying anxiety throughout and a wish for recouperation that does not occur. Imbued in the work are feelings of grief, guilt, paralyzing fear, sacrifice, and a brutal acceptance of humanity as it is. I was lucky enough to have the work rehearsed and recorded by the National Youth Orchestra of the United States in the summer of 2024."
